Twins reinstate Michael Pineda, veteran will start Friday against Tigers

The Twins reinstated righthander Michael Pineda from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned lefthander Devin Smeltzer to Triple-A Rochester. Pineda will start Friday night’s game in Detroit.

Pineda, who missed the Twins past eight games because of right knee tendinitis, is 4-3 with a 5.34 ERA in 11 starts this season. The 30-year-old has walked 11 and struck out 50.

Smeltzer made two starts for the Twins, going 0-1 with a 3.65 ERA, three walks and nine strikeouts.
