COVID-19’s impact on the sports world has escalated quickly over the past 48 hours, with the NBA suspending its season and other leagues likely to follow.
Below is a quick-hitting list of how COVID-19 has impacted Minnesota-related sporting events to this point:
On a national level:
All NCAA championships — including the NCAA Tournament and the NCAA wrestling championships at U.S. Bank Stadium — have been canceled.
MLB has suspended all operations — and delayed the start of its season by at least 2 weeks
The NBA, NHL and MLS have suspended their seasons
And both Duke and Kansas have pulled out of the NCAA Tournament — which will almost certainly be canceled
On a local level (in addition to the Twins, Wolves, Wild and United seasons all on pause):
* The Minnesota Vikings have suspended all travel for coaches and scouts
* The Minnesota State High School League has canceled the girls and boys basketball tournaments.
* The Parallel 45 Festival and Cross Country World Cup, set to be held next week in Minneapolis, has been canceled.
* U of M has canceled all in-person classes across all 5 campuses starting Monday
